Inefficient service of Hyster reach-stackers

One of the main components of successful and fruitful work for container cargo carriers is efficient and trouble-free operation of cargo handling equipment. Application of reach-stackers in all parameters is one of the most flexible methods allowing to decrease costs at handling work on container terminals and ports. Their main advantage is wide discretion at handling container cargo not only on open sites, but also in hangars. And availability of dealing and service centers all around the world is a pledge of complete service of a machine within the shortest period of time. This is quite easy, loaders must work and spend as little time as possible in a work-shop. We have agreed with all the above mentioned for almost 20 years having the work experience with Kalmar и Fantuzzi loading equipment.

However, despite the most optimistic prospects and seemingly favorable situation our company, having purchased Hyster RS 31CH reach-stacker, faced an unprecedented case of service for such equipment. At the moment it has been 3 months since Hyster reach-stacker is standing still in the middle of the container terminal in St. Petersburg due to the transmission failure.

Managers of the dealing centre have been experimenting with repair for three months, though our mechanics defined the reason why the transmission has gone out of order and told it to the dealer with a request to replace it in accordance with guarantee obligations. But the dealer preferred to dawdle. Three months later the transmission fault finding was made and our suppositions were proved. It is funny, but our specialists would eliminate this fault within maximum 10 days (including delivery of spare parts).

So we have 4 months of the equipment idle time for which neither the dealer (LLC Soyuzkomplektavtorans) with whose General Director, unfortunately, we were not able to speak to, nor the manufacturer Hyster itself wants to be responsible for.

Now reach-stackers are produced by 14 manufacturers - exclusively foreign companies:  CVS Ferrari (the former Belotti), Ormig and Fantuzzi (Italia), Linde and Liebherr (Germany),  Kalmar (merged Sisu and Valmet) and SMV (Sweden), Meclift (Finland), Luna (Spain), TCM and Коматsu (Japan), Dalian (China) and Hyster and Terex (the former models of PPM) (USA). The market of these machines cannot be called well-established: recently a few companies,   Boss (UK) is among them (this brand is liquidated completely), Madal (Brasil), Hyco (Italian) and Svetruck (Sweden) have closed their production due to a number of reasons.

If Hyster is aimed at keeping their positions in the Russian market of container equipment and not to close their representative offices due to a number of reasons, we advise it to be more careful with the choice of dealing companies and to show more interest in solution of such problems.
